Editing the Track IDs File

In come chart files the chart writers will say "Races below run at XYZ Track", where XYZ is a name of a race track.  QuickDog uses a file called \jaidogs\mytrkids.txt as a way to convert these track names into Track Identifiers (2 character track names).  Since chart writers can type anything as a track name, they often make mistakes, and the name, while recognizable to a human reader who simply says "they spelled it wrong", the computer can not tell what track the chart writer meant.

Thus, the reason for the Track IDs file.  Notice on line 5 of the file shown in Figure 1.  "Birmngham,BM" - simply means that once upon a time, a chart writer actually wrote the name "Birmngham" when they meant "Birmingham".  When this happens, QuickDog will reference this file - \jaidogs\mytrkids.txt - in order to find out what Track ID the chart writer meant to use.  If QuickDog can not find a match, then an error message will be generated and you will be asked to use this feature to add a "new track name" along with that track names track ID.

Look over Figure 1 and you will note that many track IDs are listed more than once, and that's because the chart writers misnamed them.  Birmingham is a great example!  It must be a very hard word to type for some chart writers.

If you select the Track ID File feature, the display in Figure 1 will appear.

Once you make any changes to this file, simply save it back to "\jaidogs\mytrkids.txt".  Then redownload the files that you'd been downloading when you got the message to edit the mytrkids file.  This will correct the error message you got.  Typically it is highly unlikely you will get an error message, but if you do, then you should update the mytrkids.txt file.
